We’re Building in Colombia

Through partnerships with local non-profits and industry professionals, Bay-Build is working to provide a standardized framing system that is fabricated and built by Colombians. We use industry standard methods, that will allow us to scale the frame to a global network. If it works in Colombia, it can work anywhere in the world.

What We’re Building

We build frames. We provide a strong frame that is simple, open, and able to accommodate a variety of uses. We do not dictate what the frames are used for. We simply provide a strong product that can be used in whatever way the end-user desires.

How We’re Building

Everything arrives to the site pre-cut, pre-drilled, and pre-packaged. We can fit 92m² (1,000f²) of shelter into any standard civilian truck. Each component of the framing assembly comes with a set of graphic instructions. You simply arrange the pieces as shown in the plans, and insert the screws into the pre-drilled holes. Our largest frame can be assembled in 12 hours by a team of 8 people.

Where We’re Building

We’re building all over Colombia. We are able to transport the frame using small civilian vehicles, giving us unlimited reach through even the most challenging terrain. We have built multiple frames from the remote central jungles of Dagua, to the northern border community of Tibú. Our frames have been used for visitor centers, food markets, and farming infrastructure. Every project serves the needs of community as they see fit.

Who We’re Building With

We partner with social organizations that are working closely within their community. In many cases, our frames are built by members of the community itself. The simplicity of the frame allows workers who have little or no construction experience to contribute to the project. This approach ensures that the final product is well received with a sense of ownership and involvement that the community deserves.

Why We’re Building

In 2017, The Colombian Peace Agreement was signed between the Colombian government and the FARC rebel group. This ended 50 years of armed conflict, and began a United Nations-backed process toward peaceful rural reform across Colombia.

Rural reform involves investment in rural communities to promote legal commerce as an alternative to the narcotics industry. In many cases, physical infrastructure is needed to help facilitate this process.

If done correctly, the task of rural reform must be executed at a local level, by organizations who know how to work within communities. Simultaneously, the size and scope of the program demands the expertise of national industry. Bay-Build is working in Colombia to bridge this gap, by connecting humanitarian need with industry professionals and global innovation.
